Teacher of Design and Technology, Engineering and CAM experience an advantage

West Island School seeks to appoint a passionate and motivational Teacher of Design and Technology to start in August 2024 (Full-time Two-year contract, renewable by mutual agreement).

You will be joining a team of nine teachers who collaborate with our Technology Faculty to offer the following wide range of subjects: Computer Science, Digital Design, Engineering, Fashion and Textiles, Food Preparation and Nutrition and Product Design.

Technology is a thriving faculty within the school and we currently teach MYP in Years 7-9 and currently have eleven BTEC and IGCSE groups in Year 10 and 11 and five BTEC and IBDP groups in Year 12 and Year 13. The popularity of the subjects within the school is matched by the success of our students who consistently attain above expectations and who achieve highly year after year.

You will be an excellent teacher who understands how inquiry can be promoted in learning, shows a willingness to contribute, learns from the rest of your team and is excited to explore new ways of working. An ability to contribute to the teaching of some other areas of the faculty would be an advantage. The Technology faculty is passionate about providing stimulating and relevant learning experiences within and beyond the classroom. The faculty are proud of their collaborative approach and you should enjoy working in a team, contributing to the development of resources and approaches to teaching and learning across each phase.

West Island School is a rewarding environment to pursue your career as a teacher. We prioritise professional development and are engaged in developing our own practice as a community of teachers who learn from each other. As part of ESF, we also benefit from an extensive CPD programme which draws from the world’s best researchers and trainers to upskill our leaders and teaching teams.

All teachers at West Island School are tutors to a group of approximately 15 students within a particular year group and you should be able to demonstrate a commitment to the holistic development of young people through pastoral work. It is essential that you are willing and able to contribute to the wider life of our schools such as leading overseas visits and trips.

Finally, there is a range of extra-curricular events and activities to which every teacher is expected to contribute. Many activities are based on the teacher’s own interests or in support of students who are leading activities. It is essential that you are willing and able to contribute to the wider life of our school.

In return for your passion and for delivering quality education, we offer a highly competitive salary, gratuity, housing allowance, passage, healthcare, and subsidised school places for your children. Our strength as part of the English Schools Foundation means that we offer security and the opportunities that are inherent in an established organisation of our size.

Please refer to the ESF recruitment website as well as our own school-based website for further information. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information about the school or living in Hong Kong.
